An attorney with a diverse professional background, Atha brings his experience as a business owner to his role as legal counsel for small- and mid-sized companies. Atha’s practice focuses on general business and corporate law, real estate transactions, and general counsel services. His years as an entrepreneur help ground his understanding of clients’ legal issues and allow for a common-sense path forward to achieve client goals.
Prior to joining Catalyst, Atha operated a solo law practice focused on small businesses, start-ups, and real estate transactions, and held attorney positions with both small- and mid-sized law firms in Portland, Oregon. From real estate and business transactions to general business advice and advising closely-held companies, Atha enjoys crafting thoughtful solutions to client concerns.
As a business owner, Atha navigated the legal as well as day-to-day operations for two craft breweries first-hand. His direct experience in the food-and-beverage industry helps serve his clients — from OLCC compliance and food safety matters to lease agreements, employment issues, and corporate governance.
Prior to his own experience as an entrepreneur, Atha worked with Portland’s business and entrepreneurship community as the Economic Development Policy Advisor for the Office of Mayor Sam Adams. He remains passionate about helping small-and mid-sized businesses succeed and thrive — a strength he brings to his work with Catalyst clients.
An east-coast native, Atha is licensed to practice law in Oregon. He earned his J.D. from the University of Oregon (GO DUCKS!) and holds a graduate certificate in Real Estate Development from Portland State University. He holds a combined degree in economics and environmental science from Colgate University (GO RAIDERS!). He has called Oregon home since 2005 and always discovers new reasons to fall in love (again) with the Pacific Northwest. In his free time, you can usually find Atha outdoors trying to keep up with his partner, Rachel, and their dog, Alabama.
